The JamesLuke Dunnage Air Bags
What are Dunnage Bags?
A Dunnage Bag is a plastic lined inflatable pillow, covered with either heavy wearing kraft paper or a PP woven outer. Dunnage bags slip flat between the voids of a load and are inflated with compressed air, thus reducing unwanted cargo movements.
What’s happening to your goods during transport?
Container
When a container is being transported, it can often involve a combination of road, ship and rail and because of this it is extremely important to consider the various influences your cargo may be exposed to under the following conditions, an ocean going container vessel is subject to 6 motions, heave, roll, sway, pitch, yaw and surge. The JamesLuke Dunnage Bags keep your products in place by filling the gaps between your cargo and functioning as void fillers this securing your load.
Railroad
When your cargo is being transported by rail, powerful forces are unleashed during coupling and the need for securing your load is essential. The JamesLuke Dunnage Bag will absorb the sudden jolts from coupling, tremors and vibrations caused by rail joints and track shifting and ultimately protecting your cargo from damage.
Ship
When sending cargo by sea, you need to be assured that the dunnage bag is strong enough to withstand even the most extreme stress loads to protect your cargo from transport damages. A high friction value ensures that the JamesLuke Dunnage Bag stays in place even over very long distances and in rough seas. For many years, fruit, meat products, frozen fish, paper reels, and much more have been secured in the cargo holds of ships using inflatable dunnage bags.
Truck
During road transport the sharp turns, sudden breaking, and roundabouts put your cargo at risk that’s when the JamesLuke Dunnage Bag attributes truly come into their own, and protects the cargo from damage.

* Quality Control
At JamesLuke Australia we want our customers to have complete confidence in our products, and it is for this reason our quality assurance is of utmost importance, and that is why only the highest quality kraft papers and LPDE plastics are used for the JamesLuke Dunnage Bag.
Manufacture under ISO 9001 certification
Every JamesLuke Dunnage Bag is examined at the end of each stage of production. This equates to a total of 8 quality control tests, throughout production.
Every JamesLuke Dunnage Bag that is manufactured is inflated with air and tested for any leaks for a 24 hour period.
Our products are continuously tested on toughness and material quality.
* Capacity
The capacity of a JamesLuke Dunnage Bag depends on 2 factors. The size of the dunnage bag and the width of the space that it should fill.
JamesLuke Dunnage Bag’s optimal degree of effectiveness is in the confines of 10cm space and the space should not be more than a maximum of 45cm, once exceeding 45cm in space there is not enough supporting surface available to secure the cargo effectively.
* Working Pressures
According to each grade the JamesLuke Dunnage Bag has a working pressure of
0,10 bar ( light grade )0,20 bar ( medium grade )
0,40 bar ( heavy duty grade )
This pressure represents the upper limit of the inflated pressure. With each use the user should be careful only to inflate the dunnage bag so that it secures and stabilises the goods, but at the same time doesn’t put any pressure on or even damage the goods.
The working pressure should remain constant during the entire transportation. Temperature effects should be taken into account as these could change this working pressure.
If the temperature rises considerably during transit, the working pressure can increase. If the temperature drops, however, the working pressure also drops. If the user is aware of this change in climate he can counteract this on loading by increasing or reducing the working pressure when inflating the dunnage bag.
* Burst Pressure
The burst pressure is also dependent on sizes and space. From manufacture, the burst pressure is three times as high as the maximum working pressure.
* The Valve
Every JamesLuke Dunnage Bag has the unique pinball safety valve. In comparison with the conventional silicon rubber inserts, this valve is absolutely airtight, without additional safety stoppers or screw attachments.
* Inflation
Due to the unique pinball safety valve it is possible to fix the inflation tool onto the valve. The user can therefore work single-handedly during the entire inflation process – a great advantage
* Deflation
Due to the standard screw valve, the JamesLuke Dunnage Bag can be deflated again at any time. This is very important in order not to destroy the bags when positioned wrongly and to be able to re-position them.
* The Label
A JamesLuke Dunnage Bag, like every technical product, is subject to limits. For this reason you will find a label on every JamesLuke Dunnage Bag with the most important technical parameters. Operating instructions and the dos and don’ts of the dunnage bags.
* Our Experience’s with Dunnage Bags
Having been in the industry for many years, we at JamesLuke Australia have seen, tried and experienced many types of dunnage bags. Paper, PP Woven, Vinyl and Paper with PP woven glued to one side, this product sounds great in theory but our experience knows as does our Germany manufacture that the glue turns the paper brittle and stops the paper having any give causing weakness. This product maybe hard to rip by hand but rub it over a sharp corner or put pressure on it and it will not hold up.
Paper is another big issue with dunnage bags, most bags made today are manufactured using Chinese paper, this type of paper is very poor for dunnage bags it has no give, nor can it ride over corners very well thus creating holes easily in the bag. The four largest dunnage bag manufactures only use European or Australian Paper.
The JamesLuke dunnage bags are manufactured by a Germany company using German machinery under an ISO certification. Not only are these bags bought by the largest Australian multinational companies but also from the likes of BMW, Volkswagen, Red Bull, BASF and much, much more.
